To give you a brief introduction, Michael Hersey began silversmithing in 1955, building on a rich tradition of British silversmithing that dates back centuries. He later founded Hersey, and in 1981 his son Stewart joined him after training as a silversmith at The Sir John Cass School of Art - now part of London Guildhall University - and at Grant Macdonald’s workshop in Southwark. From the very beginning, their focus was  on using time-honoured techniques to create beautiful silver pieces that are made to last a lifetime. Today, their family-run workshop continues to uphold these same values - traditional craftsmanship, design integrity, and an unwavering commitment to customer service. Every item they make is carefully finished by hand, reflecting the skill, care, and pride of their friendly team of silversmiths. As they look to the future, they are  committed not only to preserving the craft but also to helping it flourish. They actively invest in nurturing new talent, sharing knowledge, and passing on skills to the next generation of makers. By doing so, they hope to ensure that the art of silversmithing continues to thrive for many years to come. Stewart Hersey is a Liveryman of The Goldsmiths’ Company and a Freeman of London.
